MISSING & HEALTH
HELP IMPROVE THE CARE AND SUPPORT OF FAMILIES OF MISSING PEOPLE
MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE!
Welcome to Missing and Health, a space for you to make a difference!
In the UK, 170,000 people go missing per year, many due to mental health challenges.
While most are found, some continue to disappear as a way of coping with their struggles, and sadly, a small number are never found.
The families of those affected go through difficult emotional turmoil, and yet their unique needs often remain under the radar.
That is why I’m collaborating with medical schools and counselling organisations to ensure that future professionals, especially doctors, are better equipped to understand the trauma experienced by families of missing people and their needs. Doctors often play a key role in providing support and can help connect families with the right resources and organisations during such a painful time, yet they don’t receive any training about it.
As part of my research, I’m seeking to reach out to people who have been affected by the repeated or single disappearance of a loved one, whether they have been found or are still missing. I understand that speaking about such sensitive experiences can be deeply challenging, but all conversations will remain confidential. I have personal experience with this type of trauma, and I truly believe that sharing these stories in a safe and supportive environment can make a real difference for others facing similar struggles.
By participating in interviews, they will have the chance to share their experiences in a safe space, helping to shape the way future doctors and professionals approach these situations. It’s a chance to make a meaningful difference not only for their own family but for many others who will benefit from this work in the future.
You can also participate in a creative group, where we will explore our feelings through guided creative activities, personal reflections, and shared experience. This can be a powerful way to heal in ways that words alone can’t. You don’t need to be artistic either.
If you are able, I would be so grateful if you could help spread the word by sharing my posts on social media, or perhaps even connecting me with anyone who may be willing to share their story in confidentiality with me.
